Dormitories for women at CST,LTT get good response

The first set of exclusive dormitories inaugurated by railway minister Pawan Bansal at CST and LTT on April 16 is getting a good response from women passengers. The 78-bed AC dorms 58 for men and 20 for women at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) and 24 for women at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) are the first of their kind in the country.
A day after their opening on April 17,44 beds were reserved by men and seven by women at CST,while four beds were booked by women at LTT.
Without advertisement we got a good response from passengers on first day. I hope in future,these will be fully occupied, Mukesh Nigam,Mumbai division manager,Central Railway,said.
Alpana Parne,a PWD engineer,reached CST by Duronto Express at 8 am Wednesday. I saw a board saying an air-conditioned dormitory for women was available. Since I had to reach Mantralaya at 11 am,I booked a bed. Some amenities were missing but it was a good experience.
Vasant Rao,a government employee from Akola who also booked a bed,said,CR has taken a good step. It was really a good experience. But there was no cleaning staff and towels were missing in bathrooms. I think it is a new set-up and CR authorities will take care of this.
These dormitories are a boon for working women who travel alone and want a safe but inexpensive place to stay, said a senior CR official.
A passenger with a valid ticket can book a bed for Rs 150 for 12 hours and Rs 250 for 24 hours, he said.
