The general body meeting of Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) that took place on Monday for the first time under recently joined chief executive officer Dr D K Malik deliberated upon at least half a dozen important issues including overcharging of vehicle entry tax, sewage system work among others.
While deliberating on extending the vehicle entry tax contract for 2009-2010, board members along with board vice president Prasad Kedari pointed out that the contractor has been rampantly overcharging. Malik said, "The minimum penalty would be increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50, 000 if any of the contractors are found guilty along with an increase of 10 per cent in toll bills."
While the work at New Modikhana, Solapur bazaar and Bhimpura was completed, work in other parts of the cantonment would be delayed as a result of the bidding- tender process.
Similarly, the work of beautification of Muredha Nullah is expected to get delayed by a month because of administrative hitches. While section 2 of the beautification is almost done, section 3 from Parade Ground to RSI will take at least a month more.
The license of Thousand Oaks, a pub-cum-restaurant was revoked amidst heated argument between the board members. While most of the members wanted cancellation of the license on grounds of public inconvenience, a majority of them refrained from voting.
