  • With the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) sending out detailed circulars about the grading system to be implemented for classes IX and X from this academic session, schools, too, are pulling up their socks.

To dispel any confusion, the Board has also invited parents to send in their queries via post or e-mail, which would be answered expeditiously.

The detailed marking scheme sent to schools in September states that a student’s performance will be assessed using conventional numerical marking mode and the same will be later converted into grades on the basis of a pre-determined range of marks.

While a student scoring in the range of 91 to 100 will be graded as A1 with a grade point of 10, those falling in the bracket of 81 to 90 will score A2 with a grade point of 9.

The marking scheme will decrease in a similar fashion on a nine-point scale with the lowest grades being E1 and E2 for those getting a score of 21-32 and below 20 respectively.

These grades will indicate subjectwise performance of a student and this score at the national-level will be made available to schools on demand.

With the introduction of the grading system, the practice of getting a compartment and failing will be discontinued.

Furnishing further details, the Board makes it clear that those candidates who obtain grades E1 and E2 will have to improve their performance through subsequent five attempts while those scoring not below grade D will be issued a Qualifying Certificate (QC).

    ... contd.
