DQ Entertainment,Sun TV ink deal

Animation and gaming DQ Entertainment International said on Tuesday it has signed a deal with Sun TV Network to provide animated content.

Animation and gaming DQ Entertainment International said on Tuesday it has signed a deal with Sun TV Network to provide animated content,sending its shares up nearly 8 percent.

Under the agreement,DQE will provide 117 half-hours of animated programmes,co-produced with European,Canadian and US partners,including four renewed properties – Casper’s Scare School,Benjamin Bear Season-1,Leonardo and Pet Pals.

As per the deal,Sun TV has rights to broadcast these programmes in four languages – Tamil,Telugu,Kannada and Malayalam – in India,Sri Lanka and other countries,it said in a statement to the BSE.

Financial details were not disclosed in the statement.

DQE,which controls licensing and merchandising,audio and visual rights for India and other countries,will now be expanded to include commercial opportunities created through the Sun TV agreement,it said.

We believe this contract will open up a number of potential revenue generating opportunities for these four international properties in publishing,merchandising and home entertainment,Tapaas Chakravarti,chief executive officer,DQE,said in the statement.

Sun TV operates 20 channels across 27 countries including US,Canada,Europe,South Africa,Australia and New Zealand,45 FM radio stations and two news dailies.

At 12:29 p.m.,shares in DQE were up 6.13 percent at 102.20 rupees while Sun TV was up 2.17 percent.
