  • Eminent cardiologist Naresh Trehan’s super-specialty healthcare institute Medanta - The Medicity is ready for a Diwali launch and will be open to patients from October 19.

Spread over 43 acres in Gurgaon, the hospital will provide care at affordable prices, Dr Trehan told Newsline. “Medicity will be a largely academic institute and we hope to reach the neglected sections of society to make healthcare accessible to them.”

The Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre had in May 2007 sacked the cardiologist citing a “conflict of interest” with his Medicity, since the hospital had started taking shape by then. Dr Trehan, along with his team of doctors and paramedical staff, had joined the Apollo hospital after a week-long public spat with the Escorts management. This team has already moved to Medanta but will continue to be associated with Apollo, Dr Trehan said.

Other doctors who have joined are Dr Rakesh Khazanchi, head of the Plastic Surgery department at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and from AIIMS Dr Sumit Singh, Neurology, Dr Aditya Gupta, Neurosurgery, and Dr K K Handa, ENT.

The hospital will have 1,250 beds with 45 operating theatres. It will have eight special departments - the Heart Institute, Critical Care and Anesthesiology, Neurosciences, Bone and Joint Institute, Cancer Institute, Liver and Gastroenterology Sciences, Kidney and Urology Institute and Transplant and Regenerative Medicine.
