Weekend shows of Punjabi comedy play ‘Mirch Masala’ are enthralling the audience at the Punjab Natshala.

Weekend shows of Punjabi comedy play ‘Mirch Masala’ are enthralling the audience at the Punjab Natshala here. The play based on the daily lives of three unmarried brothers and how they blend their routine with the society at large, which looks at them with malice for being bachelors, exhibits the changing way of life in the rural Punjab.

Written by Jatinder Brar and directed by Narinder Sanghi, the play, has already been staged 20 times and more shows are likely given the response of the people who, organizer at the Punjab Natshala say,are returning to the theatre.

The actors Jaswant Jass (Veera Ji),Pawandeep (Dara),Henry (Ramu) Mandeep Ghai (Bhabhi) and Vishnu Sharma (TP) with their performance provide a peep into the rural society with the message that women are the backbone of a family and their absence leads to disrespect and even contempt from the social milieu. “We are happy that we are going full house. People are liking the comedy,” Jatinder Brar, running the play -theatre at no-profit basis.

Though the over-a-decade-old theatre, developed by Brar,to revive Punjabi theatre, had been running shows of all the prominent plays of the country, the comedy plays seem to be its prime focus.

The Natshala itself has grown from nothing to an ultra-modern theatre. It began operating from a factory shed when Brar gave away his all earnings to set up 200-seat auditorium, equipped with modern technology of lighting and sounds. Artistes from Pakistan and India performed together recently here.
