  • This year, throw caution to the winds and chart a career which not only ensures success for you in the future, but also absorbs you. It’s admission time in the city and this academic year, apart from the usual medical, engineering, arts, commerce and science streams, there’s a new list of about 58 courses on offer! Starting with University Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism that’s set to groom students with BSc in Hospitality and Hotel Administration and BSc in Tourism Management, PU also brings in MSc in Forensic Science and Criminology. “But what’s been much awaited is the five-year integrated course in fashion and lifestyle technology. The course comprises an in-depth study of fashion innovators; fashion marketers and advertisers; pattern developers and fashion event managers among others, it will surely be at par with the best courses across India,” chirp twins Saloni and Surbi. Those wanting to contribute towards the development of society, there’s MA (semester system) in Community Education and Development, “the last date for most of these courses in July 6,” tells a PU official as he takes us through www.puchd.ac.in and two online courses in geo-informatics. “There’s MSc (GIS) and a one-year diploma in geo-informatics. Both organised in collaboration with the University of Salzburg, Austria,” Prof Krishan Mohan, Chairperson, Dept. of Geography says that the courses have been added this year to meet requirements of professionals already working in the field of geo-informatics and that admission forms can be downloaded from www.unigis.net/PU_Chandigarh before July 20. With universities reviewing and re-engineering their conceptual directions, even engineering gets a twist with Mechatronics, “a synergistic combination of mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, control engineering, systems design engineering and computer engineering it helps create useful products and serves the purposes of controlling advanced hybrid systems,” Chancellor of MM University, Mullana, Tarsem Garg says that the University is the first in North India to design the course. Playing a vital role in the use of robotics and medical field Dr NP Mehta, Director-Principal of MM Engineering College tells us that the forms can be downloaded from mmumullana.org.
