Drive against tinted glass on buses, cars gathers pace

On the second day of the drive against tinted glasses in vehicles, the Traffic police booked 1,626 vehicles. Of these, 1,479 were cars and 146 buses — including inter-state and private chartered buses.

A total of 97 chartered buses were booked for permit violation of picking up passengers. All these buses were prosecuted, police said.

The police also cracked down on drivers without a public service vehicles (PSV) badge. More than 134 autorickshaw and 12 taxi drivers were challaned for not carrying a PSV badge.

The Transport officials are also taking steps to ensure that all public transport drivers have PSV badges. Many of the drivers in the city are yet to get these badges, which require a police verification.

The Transport department on Thursday issued a public notice asking owners of all stage carriage and contract buses to ensure safety of passengers. It said all off-duty buses, with permits issued by the department, must be parked with the owners and not with the drivers or other staff members.

"If a owner does not adhere to these instructions, we will take relevant action against him and may confiscate the vehicles,'' a Transport official said.
