A woman, who lives in Nizamuddin with her daughter, was robbed by her driver and his three accomplices on Tuesday night. The robbery was committed at knifepoint, the police said.
Within eight hours of the complaint the police arrested the robbers from Nizamuddin Railway Station as they were attempting to flee the city.
According to the police, Usha Kumari, the victim, called the Police Control Room from her residence in Sundar Nagar, informing them about the robbery.
“The woman told us that she had hired one Raju as a security guard-cum-driver three days ago. She, however, had not recorded his particulars and had also not gotten his antecedents verified by the police.
On Tuesday night, when it was time for Raju to leave for the day, three of his accomplices walked into the house with knives. They also threatened Usha and her daughter Mahima,” a senior police officer said.
The police said Raju tied up Kumari and her daughter and then broke open suitcases and cupboards. Police said the robbers then decamped with gold and diamond jewellery, two mobile phones, two laptops, one I-pod, a watch and Rs 12,000 in cash. The robbed articles are estimated to be worth Rs 12 lakh, police said.
After a case was registered at Nizamuddin police station, teams were dispatched to ISBT in Sarai Kale Khan and Nizamuddin Railway Station. At 6.30 am on Wednesday, Raju alias Imtiyaz, a resident of Bhopal and Bobby, a resident of Muradabad, were arrested from Nizamuddin Railway Station.
