An alleged drug peddler with suspected ISI links,who has a red corner notice against him,was arrested in the national capital,police said on Friday.
Sabir Ali (32),hailing UP’s Muzaffarnagar and residing in Lahore for the past two years,was caught by Delhi Police’s Crime Branch from near Welcome Metro station around 3.30 pm on Thursday,a senior police official said.
The arrest came after investigations into inputs that Ali is hiding in the national capital and that he would come to Welcome locality in the afternoon,Additional Deputy Commissioner (Crime) Sanjay Tyagi said.
During interrogation,Tyagi claimed,Ali told police that he had visited Pakistan for the first time at the age of 15,as one of his sisters was married there.
“His father Noor Mohd was also found involved in smuggling of goods between India and Pakistan. During his stay in Dharam Pura in Lahore,Ali came in contact with Aslam Katora,who is suspected to be an ISI agent.
“On his direction,he started smuggling heroin from Pakistan via Samjhauta Express,” Tyagi said.
Katora was caught in Rajasthan 10-15 years ago and was deported back to Pakistan in 2002.
According to Tyagi,Ali got a Pakistan visa for Lahore for 90 days from the Pakistan High Commission with the help of Katora and he allegedly started sending heroin to India,he said.
