  • Two men were arrested from outside the residence of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley after they allegedly misbehaved with one of the security guards, posted outside his Greater Kailash residence, late Sunday night.

Released after sustained interrogation, the two were penalised and booked for drunken driving.

Police identified the accused as Mohit, 33, and Sidharth, 29, and said they are brothers-in-law. Mohit lives in nearby Greater Kailash-I, the police said.

Inebriated, the two parked their car near Jaitley’s residence and started squabbling on Sunday night, the police said. Constable Rajender of the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary, in charge of Jaitley’s security, asked them to clear out from the place but they allegedly misbehaved with the constable, after which he called the Police Control Room (PCR).

“PCR men reached the spot and took the duo into custody,” a senior officer from Greater Kailash police station said. “A medical examination confirmed that the duo was drunk and they were brought here, to GK police station. We did not overrule any possibility and called officials from the Intelligence Bureau and Special Cell (an elite unit of the Delhi Police) for joint interrogation.”

Police sources said the two were grilled by policemen, IB and Special Cell officials till early Monday and released in the morning after the interrogators were satisfied that the duo was not plotting against the BJP leader. They were challanned for drunken driving and booked under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act (drunken driving). It can result in imprisonment up to 2 years or fine up to Rs 3,000, or both.
