  • The fourth cutoff list for admissions to the Delhi University has left a flickering hope for aspirants with most of its colleges closing entry for general candidates.

However, most of the colleges are still struggling to fill up seats reserved for the OBC candidates.

According to the fourth cut-off list released late Wednesday night, several of its colleges, including Sri Ram College of Commerce, Lady Sri Ram, Gargi, Daulat Ram, Hans Raj, Kamla Nehru, Miranda House have closed admissions under general category.

In Hans Raj, Kamla Nehru, Miranda House general seats are available only in Sanskrit (Hons).

Surprisingly, some of the DU's major colleges like Hindu, Indraprastha and Kirorimal are still looking for students in popular courses like B Com (Hons) and B Com (Pass).

Hindu has lowered its cut-off for B Com (Hons) to 94-97 per cent, while the fresh cut-off for the course in IP college is 92.5 to 95.5. Admission for the course is also open in Maharaja Agrasen which has pegged its cut-off at 65 per cent.

For B Com (Pass), Kirorimal has lowered its cut-off to 91.25-91.5, while it is 91-96.5 in Ramjas.

In Ramjas, admissions remain open for English (Hons) course also with a cut-off of 82.5 to 90 per cent. The admissions have been closed in most of the other colleges.

Sri Ram College of Commerce had closed admissions for popular programmes after the second cut-off itself.

Admissions have also been closed in most of the colleges for the other popular programme B A (Hons) in Economics.

However, general category candidates can still hope to get admission in their desired courses and colleges as over 6,000 OBC seats are expected to go to general category students this year due to non-availability of candidates in the reserved category.

The Delhi University has 10,183 seats for OBC students. However, the varsity is facing difficulty to fill them up due to less number of applications from the OBC students.

"At least two third of the total OBC seats are expected to be converted into the general seats, thus providing greater opportunity for the candidates from other than OBC categories," a DU official said.

The total number of seats for undergraduate courses in the country's one of the most popular universities this year is 49,640.

The university, which had recorded about 2,300 vacancies in the reserved seats for OBC category last year, has this time said the seats will be thrown open for the general category if remained vacant.

These seats will be converted after August 14, the official said.
