A man shot dead a 20-year-old Delhi University student following an argument in Central Delhi's Patel Nagar area on Thursday night, police said.
Police said the youth's father, elder brother and three other relatives were wounded in the incident.
"The incident took place when Manish Singh Chaudhary, the victim, and his brother Sushil were taking a walk in their locality after dinner on Thursday. When they decided to stop for ice-cream, two men came in a Skoda Laura and told the two youth to stop loitering there," a police officer said.
"This led to an argument. The two brothers were pulled into the vehicle and assaulted," the officer said.
After a while, the brothers were let off and they returned home.
"I was shocked when I heard that my sons were assaulted for no reason. I took my brothers and nephews to this man's house. As soon as we reached there, his mother unleashed her dogs. And then a bullet hit Manish and he slumped. In the meantime, the dogs pounced on us and I was assaulted with rods," Manish's father, Rajbeer Singh, said.
Manish was taken to B L Kapur Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
Police said the two assailants had been identified and their mother arrested on Rajbeer Singh's complaint. One of the two assailants also sustained a bullet injury after being shot at.
On Friday, angry residents blocked traffic in the area in protest against the killing.
This led to a long traffic snarl from Patel Nagar Metro station to Rajendra Place.
They left after police assured them that action would be taken against the accused.
