Duronto passengers suffer food poisoning

As many as 19 passengers of the New Delhi-Ernakulam Duronto Express were admitted to a hospital in Kozhikode in Kerala on Sunday after they developed symptoms of food poisoning.

The train,which had left Hazrat Nizamuddin,Delhi,on Saturday night,had an unscheduled stop in Kozhikode after several passengers complained of nausea. Many of them complained they were served with poor quality food for supper and breakfast. The passengers,including nine children,were admitted to government hospital in Kozhikode and their condition was said to be stable. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation would conduct an inquiry into the incident,said a railway official at Palakkad divisional office.

Union Minister of State for Railways E Ahamed,who was in Kozhikode,visited the passengers and announced Rs 15,000 aid to each. He promised a high-level inquiry into the incident. The train which was greeted by protests from CPM workers,resumed journey after three hours.
