INSTACON-10, India's first instant building built in 48 hours, on Sunday had a surprise visitor: Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram.
Chidambaram, who was in Mohali to launch the ISB campus, visited the 10-storey building to see the unbelievable feat for himself in the evening.
Accompanied by local administration officials, he reached the site at 4 pm. He was received by Harpal Singh and Yashjeet Gupta, CMD and COO of Synergy Thrislington respectively. "We got the message of his visit barely 15 minutes before he reached. It was such a pleasant surprise," said Singh. "He was enthusiastic and saw the building with great interest. He stayed on the campus for almost 45 minutes and climbed upto the fourth floor."
Appreciating the efforts put in by the Synergy team for making this building possible in India, the finance minister enquired about the cost and the material used in it.
"He was keen to know if all the building material used in the construction was Indian or imported. He was most happy when we informed him that the construction material was readily available within the country," said Gupta.
Singh later took the finance minister to his office and explained in detail the measures taken to make this building with smart features, with a focus on energy efficiency and safety.
"The finance minister was told about the complete team planning and execution for making this 10-storey building possible in 48 hours. Before he left, he gave us a beautiful handwritten note appreciating our efforts. It was a moment of glory for us," said Gupta.
