A deputy superintendent of police (DySP) has been arrested for accepting bribe of Rs 3 lakh here,officials of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) said today.
DySP of Sarkhej police station Rajendrasinh Rana had demanded bribe of Rs 10 lakh from one Dharmendar Upadhyay over phone for not taking action against him and in helping resolve a dispute with regard to his land at Badodara village of Daskroi taluka of the district,they said.
According to ACB officials,after Upadhyay approached them,they set up a trap using audio-video recording devices and mobile phone.
Rana had called Upadhyay to his office in Sarkhej police station with an initial payment of Rs 3 lakh last night.
When Upadhyay reached there with the money,Rana took him in his car towards the highway and after they reached Anandnagar road,the DySP took the bag filled with money from Upadhyay.
He was immediately caught by the ACB officials who were following the car and booked him under Prevention of Corruption Act.
According to Upadhyay,Rana was taking advantage of the dispute between him and one Chandu Sadhu over a piece of land in Daskroi taluka.
