Talking about his experiences, actor Reg Grant who plays a Texas farmer and father to Hollywood damsel Amelia Jackson Gray in the film, says, “Men of the soil everywhere and anywhere in the world are the same be it Punjab or Texas. They are made of grit, determination and above all a lot of hard work.”
Comparing his country and Punjab, Grant remarked: “Texas and Punjab, both are primarily agriculture based.” On a lighter note, the actor added: “It is the same just as there is no difference between me and Prem Chopra, who is a Punjabi farmer while I am a Texan farmer.”
Bollywood’s original villain, Prem Chopra, who is also going the Hollywood way at the ripe old age of 74, plays a tough Punjabi farmer in the film. “This is a multicultural film a story line of what happens when Americans and Indians meet and that too robust farming communities of both nations,” Chopra beamed.
Chopra, who has essayed roles in several Hindi and Punjabi films, added that he accepted the role “not because of the Hollywood tag, rather it was the script that attracted me.”
The veteran actor delves a little deeper, “The settings in Punjab and Texas are both different and similar. They are different in the sense that they are places in different geographically and they are similar because the people of these countries cannot leave their soil, their homeland for anything. It goes the same for Reg’s and my character in the film.”
Double Emmy Award winner Fred Holmes who is the director of the film prefers to put the film as that of the heart and the land. “When rural India meets rural America, there is just no place for New York,” he quipped.
A comedy of errors, the film is a multi-lingual film with dialogues in Punjabi as well as English. It’s through a series of comedic situations that arise because of a difference in language and culture that the story moves forward, the director revealed.
Pakistani-Indian artiste Mehr and Stephan Singh, born to Indian and American parents, are the other two “multi-cultural” artists in the film. True to his profession, Prem Chopra did not miss a chance to urge people not to buy and see pirated films.
He requested: “Piracy is eating into our profession and people should go buy tickets and watch a film. This helps the industry to grow in a major way.”
