‘EC agreed to CPM stand on govt’s poll violation’

The CPM on Tuesday said its charges that the election code was violated by the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal and worsening law and order in the state have been vindicated by the Election Commission. "The EC officially establishes our assessment that the law and order situation in the state has been severely damaged," the CPM said as it released a letter of the EC to it. "Notwithstanding our factual submissions, several leaders of Trinamool Congress have been making claims to the contrary. Therefore, this is now clear and admitted by the state government itself," it said. The EC letter was a reply to the party's complaint over Bengal government's decision to transfer the police officers after the process for February 23 by-elections to three Assembly seats had been set in motion and the model code of conduct enforced.
