CPM state secretary Biman Bose today slammed the Election Commission for its failure to instill confidence in the people of Junglemahal so that they could vote without fear.
The sixth phase of polls for 14 seats in Junglemahal drew the curtains on the Assembly election in Bengal.
The Election Commission failed to circulate the message about elaborate security arrangements, which could have encourage voters to go polling booths,Bose said. The Maoists, instead of calling for a vote boycott,remote-controlled the vote process, he said.
The CPM could not arrange for polling agents at 35 booths in the Gopibhallavpur seat,he said. In Binpur constituency,CPM agents were not seen in 22 booths. We could not arrange for polling agents because of the Maoist threat, Bose alleged.
In Bagbinda village in Purulia, where seven Forward Bloc activists had been killed in December 2010,very few voters came forward. Last night,a Maoist group came to the village and threatened voters, alleged the CPM leader said.
In the previous election,Maoist had called for a vote boycott. This time, the Maoists allegedly issued threats against those voting for Left candidates. So it was clear that the Maoists were backing the Trinamool Congress-Congress combine,Bose added.
