ED to approach Madagascar for Ramdev’s trail

ED has also approached UK authorities seeking financial details about Ramdev's island in Scotland.

The Enforcement Directorate will soon approach their counterparts in the island nation of Madagascar to obtain information on transfer of thousands of dollars in connection with its probe against Yoga guru Ramdev.

The ED has found foreign remittances and inflow of certain amount of funds during its discreet probe in the case and will write to the foreign authorities under provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) would also be communicated about these fund transfers to ascertain if due procedures were followed,sources in the Directorate said.

In connection with its probe into Ramdev’s finances,the ED has also approached UK authorities seeking financial details about an island in Scotland that was ‘gifted’ to the Yoga guru by a couple who is among his ardent followers.

The Little Cumbrae Island,off the fishing town of Largs in Scotland,serves as Ramdev’s base overseas and also as a wellness centre.

The Directorate has asked the authorities in the United Kingdom (UK) to help it with documentation and funding-related aspects of the island.

The ED’s probe is aimed at checking the flow of money and transactions through various trusts floated by Ramdev including the Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust,Divya Yoga Mandir Trust and Bharat Swabhiman Trust.

The agency,after completing the probe,may decide to formally register a case under the provisions of FEMA orPrevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) if findings show anything unlawful,the sources said.

ED had earlier also asked the Registrar of Companies (RoC) to obtain details of companies related to Ramdev.
