EDI to open centres in African countries

Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI) will set up Entrepreneurship Development Centres (EDCs) in Rwanda, Zambia, Namibia, Senegal, Gabon in Africa, and in Uzbekistan as part of an agreement between India and these countries. "The focus will be on ensuring the centre becomes self-sustainable before we exit in three years. We will train their faculty and staff for 12 weeks at EDI once they are hired. In five years, the scope of these centres will expand to include courses on entrepreneurship," said EDI director Dinesh Awasthi. Starting March, teams from EDI will visit there to map entrepreneural activities in these countries. Four years ago, EDI had established EDCs in Lhaos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar. "Lhaos, Cambodia and Myanmar are success stories as each has become self-sustainable," said Sanjay Pal, an associate professor who is working with Uzbekistan.
