Eid comes early for Kazmi family

"He is innocent. Allah has supported us throughout. The result is before you," his wife Jahan Ara said as their two sons hugged her after after news broke that the Supreme Court has granted him bail.

Since Kazmi was arrested in March in connection with the bombing of an Israeli diplomat's car, the family has gone through seven harrowing months of court appearances and visits to police stations and Tihar Jail. On Friday, the family couldn't hold back their tears.

"I knew this from the start. These seven months have been nerve-wracking for me and our sons. Every meeting with him in prison would bring tears to my eyes. But he assured me things would be fine. He is innocent and it's been proven," Ara said.

Ara and her sons met Kazmi in Tihar at at 4 pm on Friday. "He said he had immense faith in the judiciary," Kazmi's older son Shauzab said.

Before she got ready for her evening prayers, Ara said: "Ibadat mein hi time guzra hai in saat mahino mein. Humare liye aaj hi eid hai (These seven months have been spent in prayers. Today is Eid for us)."

"Every morning we would plan who would visit the court and who would go to the police station. My younger brother and I worked in shifts. Today is a day to celebrate," Shauzab said.

In the chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police, Kazmi was called "conspirator" for allegedly helping the bomber. The chargesheet gave details about Kazmi's meetings with suspects, his visits to Iran in 2012 and details of the money given to him.

"My father is an honest man. He was chosen to be part of the delegation visiting Syria with the Prime Minister just a week after the blast. If his credentials were unclear, how would he be in the delegation?" Shauzab, Kazmi's son, said.
