Ekta Yatra reaches city, leaders intent on hoisting flag in Srinagar

As the Rashtriya Ekta Yatra that started in Kolkata on January 12 entered Chandigarh,it was received by a large number of activists of BJYM.

“This is a challenge that I have accepted from the separatists; it is a challenge for India. It is our right to hoist the national flag in any part of the country and we would do so at the Lal Chowk,” said Anurag Thakur, national president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of Bharatiya Janata Party.

As the Rashtriya Ekta Yatra that started in Kolkata on January 12 entered Chandigarh,it was received by a large number of activists of BJYM. Thakur, under whose leadership the yatra has been undertaken was part of a road show in the city before addressing a large gathering of students at Panjab University. The roadshow moved through various parts of the city. Party workers raising slogans accompanied the cavalcade.

Thakur seemed unfazed by the repeated statements of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to not to come to Lal Chowk.

Thakur said,“Separatists go to Delhi and other parts of the country saying that Kashmir is separate from India. The Prime Minister cannot take a decision and no case of sedition is registered against them. The PM should wear bangles.”

He added that the separatists also incited the youth of Kashmir to pelt stones at the Armed Forces. “While the morale of the Armed Forces is being lowered, the government is silent on the issue. Rahul baba and Sonia Gandhi have not said anything. There are demands for revoking Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Kashmir. This would further lower the morale of the soldiers,” he said.

“If Kashmir is not safe,India is not safe. It could lead to a situation where Chinese and Pakistani armies would be in Kashmir. Then it would not take them much time to reach Delhi. The youth are the largest stakeholders and every revolution starts from the youth. There is a need for the youngsters to take part in the yatra and be in large numbers at Lal Chowk,” he said.

He said,“There is a need for Article 370 to go. When Omar Abdullah gave a speech in Parliament saying he is a Muslim and an Indian,we all had appreciated it. But no change has been seen. Article 370 is still there. Jawaharlal Nehru gave this as a temporary solution which has now become a permanent problem.”
