New Delhi, September 18: : In a sharp attack on Pakistan, Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday accused it of supporting terrorist activities and communal violence in India even as he voiced concern over "alienation" of Muslim and Christian communities in this country.

Noting that India is caught in a "troubled neighbourhood", Chidambaram said Pakistan has taken its "hostility" towards India beyond Kashmir.

"Pakistan is implacably opposed to India. While Kashmir appears to be the central issue of contention, Pakistan has taken its hostility beyond Kashmir and support terrorist activities and communal conflagrations in other parts of India," he said delivering K M Cariappa Meomorial Lecture in New Delhi.

The Finance Minister said while there are challenges from across the border, there is also a challenge of "alienation" of the Muslim community and more recently of the Christian community.

"The divide between the Muslims and Hindus is taking new and dangerous forms," the Finance Minister said.

Chidambaram referred to the "ghettoisation, social boycott, discrimination in employment and blurring of lines between the state and religion as witnessed in Gujarat" and said "out of the hopelessness and despair of the Muslim community--and if not addressed firmly--the Christian tribal communities too will rise new waves of terror," he said.

"There is no other explanation for the phenomenon of graduates, engineers and doctors born, educated and living in India taking to the path of violence", he said.

Referring to India's "troubled neighbourhood", he pointed out how Myanmar gave shelter to insurgent groups and Nepal remained an "enigma" under the new Government led by Maoists.

Vote Bank Politics by Rajan on 2008-09-18 15:29:37.373938+05:30
Unless our Govt. is firmly uplifting the real democratic and secular principles, the country is heading to a turmoil. Strong political leadership is inevitable in the current scenario to combat agaist terrorists and maoists. Let Mr. Chidambaram to look into the policies of UPA government and make a self judgement of how many of them are to the benefits of aam admi. The discrimination starts from his government. His Govt. and its Prime Minister are partisan and say that the first benefits of his govt should go to minorities communities then only the majority communities. Is itself a discrimination to the people of India. Unless and until our political parties leadership and the govt. headed by them stop vote bank politics, so many problems are going to come and may lead to civil war. Stop the nonsense of appeasing the religions and see the people of India with one eye in equality and if some benefits are to be given that should be purely based on economic backwardness.
Sati in hinduism by Mahavir on 2008-09-18 15:20:49.449489+05:30
Let these women, whose husbands are worthy and are living, enter the house with ghee (applied) as collyrium (to their eyes). Let these wives first step into the pyre, tearless without any affliction and well adorned.Rise, come unto the world of life, O woman come, he is lifeless by whose side thou liest. Wifehood with this thy husband was thy portion, who took thy hand and wooed thee as a lover

The signs are nigh that the failed states around us have a banker in china.they will do everthing to prevent India from rising.PC is correct in stating that China will spend$50billion more than us every year in the defence field.Roughly that translates into1700 f16 fighters every year. That is precisely the threat facing us in the coming decade. We need a proactive stance diplomatically, economically
Problems before nation by Vaid S C K on 2008-09-18 11:19:21.794649+05:30
Congress leaders, in particular, have never cared to address the problem in right perspective since independence. As a result, feeling of patriotism in almost all religion seems to have badly erroded. It is not understood why there is need to convert the religion of some poor/destitute if he/she is to be helped. Today it is seen as charity and later it assumes dangerous proportion claiming host of concessions/benefits even separate land. This is why Congress leaders never display quality of statesmanship while clamouring to rule this country.
HM says POTA is OK but other UPA minsters look otherwise by indian on 2008-09-18 11:16:36.837245+05:30
this is how the congress culture and of course of UPA> Mr.Lalloo talks on supporting SIMI, Mr.Arjun is all for Muslims, Mr.Moily talks on terrorism though he is the most unfit to talk about the issue and now PC talks on Defence....MR.PATIL IS NOT BEING CONSULTED AT ALL !!! wHAT is going in this country. Now they talk of a comprehensive new law. What is this law and how it is different from POTA must be made known to the public. Only then we know the new las is good or bad ! The most unfortunate method of handling the situations are this UPA ministers. One suspects that this Mr.Moilys outburst that Centre will take action on Karnataka- wonders that he must be root causde of this problems of creating on christians. He must be instigated and helping his party workers to attack on churches and put the blame on BJP so that BJP can be removed from state. Is there is a conversion or not -let him answer.l Even if there is ONE CONVERSION let him justify how this happened.
Chidamabaram by Babuchandra on 2008-09-18 11:16:05.916716+05:30
There is no Christain tribal community in India. Only converted tribals. It is better for Chidambaram to concentrate on what he is best at. Dont talk of things which you do not understand or pretend not understanding.
