Elections to BJP city unit put on hold after leaders protest against lack of transparency

Following resentment among the party leaders about the ongoing internal elections in the city unit of BJP, the party high command has put further elections on hold.

A protest was held at the party office Kamlam, Sector 33. A large number of party workers and senior leaders were present. A meeting of the senior leaders will be held on Wednesday following which the future course of action would be decided.

There was tight security presence outside the party office as workers and senior leaders started gathering. Former presidents of the party as well as office bearers were present. They expressed resentment against the lack of transparency in the ongoing elections of the party in the run-up to the election of the president.

Former Mayor and BJP leader Kewal Krishan Addiwal while addressing the party workers stated that there was no transparency in the elections.

"We had asked for the voters list which is not being provided. There is no clarity on how many new members were made during the membership drive. As a rule one fourth of the total members are added during the membership drive. With there being no clarity on the total members, no one knows what one fourth of this would be," said Addiwal.

Tension had been simmering in the party over the past few days since the elections started. The elections for the mandals, districts and those of the delegates were to be held.

The delegates finally vote for the selection of the president. At places where the elections were held, there were complaints about the selection being made without elections being held. The party had also issued showcause notices against some party leaders alleging that they were informing the media about internal matters of the party.

BJP leader and former councillor Anil Dubey stated that the senior party leaders and workers were being sidelined. Only a select few were being taken into confidence.
