For the commercial power tariff, the hike proposed is around 48 per cent. The most affected would be those who consume more than 400 units. Here the proposed hike is from Rs 4.7 per unit to Rs 7 per unit. It has further been proposed that the fixed charges be increased from Rs 70 per kilo watt to Rs 150 per kilo watt.

In the industrial sector, the power tariff would be increased from Rs 4.70 per unit to Rs 6.70 per unit. The fixed charges are proposed to be increased from Rs 70 per kilowatt to Rs 150 per kilowatt. In case of medium supply category, the power tariff is proposed to be increased from Rs 4.50 per unit to Rs 6.50 per unit. In the small power category, the hike is proposed from Rs 4.40 per unit to Rs 6.30 per unit.

An official of the Electricity Department said, "We have submitted our petition to JERC. Once it is admitted, a public hearing will be held. Thereafter, a decision on the hike will be taken by JERC."

Last year, the Electricity Department had demanded a hike of around 45 to 50 per cent following which JERC had increased the power tariff by around 27 per cent.
