The year 2012 was also when we lost a host of young musicians. While Clarence Gonsalves, the bassist of Delhi-based band Them Clones, known for his unique way of holding the guitar, died after battling blood cancer, progressive metal band Reverse Polarity's drummer Jonathan Fernandes, 24, fell from a high rise in Delhi. Fernandes' death was followed by reports labelling him "heavily drunk" even though the fraternity backed him. Amit Saigal, fondly called "Papa of Rock", passed away in Goa in January after he drowned. The editor of Rock Street Journal, Saigal is credited with bringing indie music under the spotlight. Kolkata-based Gyan Singh, one of the most revered bassists in the indie music scene and member of iconic bands such as Pink Noise and Skinny Alley, passed away in November after a battle with colon cancer.
