  • The streets of L-18 house of Jamia Nagar where the alleged Indian Mujahideen terrorists were holed up, wore a desolate look in stark contrast to its outer roads, which have resumed their hustle-bustle a day after the shootout.

A posse of lathi wielding Delhi police personnel, a continuous stream of curious onlookers and journalists dot the vicinity of the area where the Special Cell of the police gunned down two militants on Friday morning.

"Only the crowds have thinned. But yesterday's shootout is on everyone's lips here," said Fatima Rehman, who lives across the road from the Khalilullah mosque, a stone's throw away from the shoot-out site.

The by lane leading to the four-storeyed building next to Batla House is a no-entry zone with barricades on both sides of the street.

"Only the residents who live in this street are being allowed to go through," a senior police official sitting at one end of the street said.

Even as grocery and chicken shops, hair cutting saloons, and other establishments have resumed their business, shops next to the street leading to L-18 had not opened.

A few media OB vans and some police control room vehicles were also seen stationed at the main square of Khalilullah mosque.

"They (media men) and the policemen are here since last night," tea vendor Khwaja said.

The Khalilullah mosque, which is currently undergoing renovation, also witnessed a steady trickle of the devout.

Encounter By: raees | 20-Sep-2008 Reply | Forward Questions 1. How did the two militant flee when the area was cordoned off hours before, and the only exit form the fourth floor apartment was manned by heavily armed policemen.2. Why inspector Sharma, dressed in kurta- pajama, was first to enter the flat, without even wearing a bullet proof jacket when others in the raid party were wearing it. This should also be kept in mind that Sharma was fired on by the so called militant in his abdomen. Couldn't this have easily been avoided?
