  • Activists on Monday came down heavily on the civic administration for failing to check the encroachment in the bio-diversity park (BDP) that has reservation in the Development Plan (DP) of the city.

“Its frustrating if the civic administration is expressing inability to keep a check on the illegal encroachment in the BDP zone,” former Mayor and representing NGO-ALERT Vandana Chavan told reporters.

She said that they pointed out the municipal commissioner that there is illegal encroachment being carried out in the BDP zone at Vishrantinagar, Hingane Khurd and Vadgaon Budhruk.

“We had demanded action from the civic administration on the illegal structures, but were told that it cannot be done without police protection,” Chavan said adding if the civic administration is unable to protect the BDP zone then its of no use having it. She said that it was duty of the civic administration to execute law instead of behaving irresponsibly. Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Zagade conveyed that only a mass movement can stop the encroachment on the BDP zone, Chavan said.
