  • A day after Y S Jaganmohan Reddy met Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the wind seems to have gone out of his sails. On Thursday, Jaganmohan’s supporters waited with bated breath for the outcome of the meeting and were disappointed when Jaganmohan said he had decided to abide by the high command’s decision.

On Friday, the Jagan camp was quiet with none of the pro-YSR ministers or MLAs making any statements. In fact, Jaganmohan is learnt to have asked his loyalists not to make any more statements to the media and put an end to the campaign. The ministers and MLAs who threatened to quit if Jaganmohan was not made chief minister have been left in an embarrassing position and have decided to cancel their usual meetings at the camp office of the official CM residence at Begumpet.

The most vocoal among them, Minister for Women Development and Child Welfare Konda Surekha who threatened to quit if Jaganmohan was not made chief minister quietly attended office and did not wish to comment. Senior ministers like Anam Rama Narayana Reddy and others also kept to themselves.

“The issue has been settled for good now and it is good for the state and politics,” APCC president D Srinivas said.

But political observers say this would lead to an easy relationship between Chief Minister K Rosaiah and YSR-loyalists. “Till now ministers who were openly making statements in favour of Jaganmohan were behaving arrogantly, confident that they will have their way. With Jaganmohan conceding, they have no choice but to fall in line but that will affect their relations with the CM Rosaiah who was tense but kept quiet in the face of the pro-Jagan campaign may not take it lying down anymore,” a Congress leader said.
