Jyoti Sukhdeo Sanap (19),a second year engineering diploma student of Sinhagad Technical Education Societys Venutai Chavan Polytechnic College,committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her hostel room on Wednesday. She has not left behind any suicide note. A student of electronics and telecommunication,Jyoti was among the top performers and hailed from Beed. She was living in the city for the past two years.
According to Haveli police,they received a call on Wednesday morning from Vijay Ashok Pale,a security officer at the Venutai Polytechnic College,informing that a student has hanged herself in the hostel room.
Assistant sub inspector A S More said the police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. The police said Jyoti had used a piece of cloth to hang herself.
Jyoti is survived by her parents,a sister and a brother. Her father reached Pune in the afternoon.
Jyotis relatives who were waiting at Sassoon hospital premises while her post-mortem was being conducted said she had visited her sister Manisha Dukares residence in Pune,for Gudhi Padwa.
Prof K C Salunkhe of the Venutai Chavan Polytechnic College,said,Jyoti was a brilliant student and one of the toppers of our college. She also used to regularly attend college and was good-natured. She was felicitated by the college for her academic feats. So,the college teaching staff also knew her well.
College officials said the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college are cooperative and counsel students whenever they approach them with difficulties. The college also organises teacher,student and guardian meetings on a regular basis so that the students can discuss their problems.
