The body of an engineering student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT),Hamirpur,was found floating in Beas river on Sunday. The deceased,Apurv Chaudhary of Dibrugarh,Assam,was a second year student of B.Arch. According to the police,Apurv was trying to cross the river along with another student,Parmesh Thakur of Chamba,when he slipped. Parmesh tried to save Apurv but he drowned,said the police. Additional Superintendent of Police,Hamirpur,Gurdev Singh ruled out foul play in the incident that occurred on Saturday near Bhalet Bridge,near Sujanpur,in Hamirpur district. Initial efforts to retrieve the body with the help of local divers proved futile on Saturday evening. On Sunday,divers were roped in from the Bhakra Beas Management Board,Nangal,who fished out Apurvs body from the river,said the police. Singh said the body would be handed over to the family after postmortem.
