The PSEB Engineers Association welcomed the decision of the Punjab government to hand over the management of the new companies after restructuring the PSEB to a team of professionals with adequate experience of the power sector. The association also thanked Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for fulfilling his assurance that the views of the engineers body would be taken while carrying out any restructuring of the board. Among these were appointment of only power sector professionals from the field of engineering, finance and management for the top post of CMD of Powercom, the company which will look after distribution and generation. Only PSEB engineers will be eligible for the posts of technical directors in the new companies. One of the most important wing in any utility is the department of Human Resource Development which ensure optimum utilisation of existing manpower. Similarly, finance and accounts officers working in the board with qualification of CA will be eligible for the post of director/finance in the both the companies. Moreover, the directors and CMDs for these companies will be selected by a selection committee headed by chief secretary and not by direct appointment as before. The association requested the Chief Minister to advise the officers concerned to complete the transition phase at the earliest and disband the managing committee constituted for the transition period. The association also urged the CM to direct the committee to ensure timely signing of the tripartite agreement so that industrial peace is restored and all stakeholders join hands to revive the ailing power sector for the economic prosperity of the state. Meanwhile, the execution of the Gidderbaha Thermal plant in the state sector was also called for by the association. Association president H S Bedi and general secretary Bhupinder Singh said this was necessary as the PSEBs share of own generation will come down drastically which will be detrimental to the stability of the power system of the state.
