Engineers demand white paper on PSEB unbundling

The Punjab State Electricity Board Engineers’ Association has demanded a white paper on the restructuring of the organisation.

The Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) Engineers’ Association has demanded a white paper on the restructuring of the organisation. A resolution to this effect was passed during a meeting of the central executive committee of the association chaired by president H S Bedi.

Talking to the media at the Ropar thermal plant after the meeting,Bedi said the state Government should ensure transparency in the matter and come clear on its stand.

He added that the government must bring out a white paper on the issue and hold a public debate before taking a final decision regarding the unbundling of PSEB with the consent of all parties concerned.

Bedi also said the power crisis in the state may worsen further in the coming years as no proposed thermal plant is being commissioned.

He demanded that the Rajpura thermal plant be set up by the state and the Gidderbaha thermal plant be set up in a joint venture with NTPC and BHEL to avoid further delay in capacity addition in the state.

The association president also held power theft and transmission losses responsible for power shortage in the state. He alleged that the government had issued instructions to PSEB not to conduct checking of tubewells of farmers, which would encourage the power thefts.

Bedi also condemned the downgrading of Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) of engineers of Ropar thermal plant by outgoing general manager K K Sood.
