BJP has asked EC to ensure EVMs are tamper proof.

With questions being raised by a section over the proper functioning of Electronic Voting Machines, BJP on Sunday asked the Election Commission to ensure that the machines are tamper-proof before putting them to use in the coming assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana.

However, the party made it "very clear" that it was not raising any question mark over the recently held Lok Sabha elections in the "absence of any tangible proof". "It is certainly expected that the Election Commission would ensure... after proper enquiry that the EVMs are not subjected to any manipulation or malfunctioning. "Till that is done, it is expected that the elections to Maharashtra, Haryana etc will be done through ballot papers," BJP spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad said.

He said apprehensions were being raised by different quarters about the alleged malfunctioning of EVMs. Recently, former Delhi Chief Secretary Omesh Saigal gave a scientific and technical presentation to the Commission as to how EVMS can be programmed to manipulate. "The Election Commission has now ordered an inquiry by a Deputy Election Commissioner," he added.

Prasad noted that in Germany, voting machines have been prohibited while in the US, it is mandatory to provide paper back ups to EVMs. "Now many parts of the world's democracies are following the old system of ballot papers," he added.

EVMs should be bannedBy: J.N.Mahanty | 06-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Engr.Omesh Saigal, IAS(1964 Batch) and who was boss of the present CEC has submitted a detailed paper on Tampering of EVMs, with adequate back up from well known Software Engineers and the conclusion is that the EVMs can be manipulated by tampering with the inbuilt software system. It is no surprise that in Orissa, quite a few EVMs registered more Votes than the total number of Voters as per the Voters Lists of the Polling Booths. The tampering also explains the secret behind the near equal number of Votes polled by the BJP Candidates of 3 Assembly Constituencies of Bhubaneswar City, who lost with huge margins.
EVMs should be foolproofBy: shanthanu | 06-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward When a pertinent question is raised, it is not right to waive off the question without proper verification of the claim made. When former government official has given a demonstration before the election commission to show how it is possible to manipulate the result by writing programs it is a serious issue which should have attracted the attention of the media and raised in the public forum. The illogical silence is baffling.
Rubbishes again..By: Jem Hassan | 06-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward I think the BJP is being real Jokers'party by alleging such things only after 1 month of the result coming out...the inspiration for this allegation must be from Iranian politics...they are thinking Indians are same as Iranians that politicians are tampered to go to the level of making amendmends in the resluts...pls dont take the exit poll results...what happend in 2004?...almost all exit polls in recent years were unscientific and incredible...exit polls have the fate of astrolgers....they all predicted MMS will never make it again...so pls stop rubbishing it...our system is not Iranian system...there is a clear transparency among the election officers..and their actions...BJP is in darkness...they can not figure out what went wrong...so they just try to find a willow-the-wisp...to save their face among the public!...poor try though!
Misuse of the EVMs By: K. G.Acharya | 05-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward I am a statistician and statistics is a science, according to which, with more than 99 % confidence level, one can say that the results of all the exit polls in the country cannot go wrong, since the combined sample size was very large.I was a Sr.Lecturer in Statistics in VJTI, a reputed engineering college in Mumbai, for more than 33 years and have taught Statistics to graduate and post-graduate students.Psephologists, who analysed the exit polls are all surprised, but they are keeping quiet since most of them are more loyal to the Congress than to their profession. In fact, in the interest of democracy, journalism and psephology, they must also look into the fraud by the misuse of the EVMs very seriously.
Makes sense to me.By: Surendra | 05-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Right on Niranjan bhai. Advani should attend all these voting sessions and count the votes and submit the number of votes to the EC. The result should be declared as stated by Shrimad Bhagvad Maha Paramhans Bhagwan Shri Advani Ji Maharaj.
