As Tamil Nadu faces acute power shortage,a Madurai-based entrepreneur has developed a device based on hydro-electric power model that can generate electricity from agricultural water pumps and obtained patent for it.
The device using turbines operates from the force as water gushes out of the agricultural pumps as well as overhead tanks,he said.
“Irrigation pumps in the farms are running for many hours. This is an attempt to make use of the force from them,” says Neethichamy, who claims that his device can become a solution to the power shortage the state is going through.
The device along with the generator, turbines, step up transformer and upload meter will cost Rs 1.25 lakh.
With over 20 lakh agricultural pumps and 20,000 over head water tanks,5004 MW electricity can be generated per day,he claims.
Neethichamy’s Kodiwin Hydro Power Pvt Ltd has obtained a patent for his product (IPR vide 449/CHE/2011) and is in the process of getting an approval from the government.
