  • In A major goof up in the merit list of the Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA) programme in M S University (MSU), the Schedule Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) quota got swapped wrongly, affecting the students’ intake in the course, sources said.

The first merit list was out on June 18 and nearly 14 students from the Scheduled Caste quota had paid the fees till June 26, sources said. Now, the matter has been kept for discussion with the Programme Executive Committees (PEC) and the MSU officials are yet to be consulted.

Kalpesh Shah, the Assistant Director of BBA programme said: “There is 49 per cent quota for the SC, ST and the Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC). The bifurcation is SC: 7 per cent; ST: 15 per cent and 27 per cent for SEBC. This time, the SC and ST quota got swapped due to an error in tabulation. As such, the list showed 15 per cent for SCs and 7 per cent for STs.”

He added: “Fourteen students from the SC quota have already paid Rs 15,500. As the seats were swapped, we will ask the MSU authorities to increase the number of seats. There are 180 seats for BBA in total and we will soon ask for 187 seats.”

BBA is one of the applied courses in the Faculty of Commerce that is in high demand. When asked if the faculty will take any measures or would inquire into the matter, Prof A R Hingorani, Dean, Faculty of Commerce, said: “The error was not intentional. Therefore, we do not want to inquire over this issue.”
