The Employees State Insurance Corporation has decided to establish 27 medical and dental colleges across the country besides para-medical training schools to meet the shortage of medical professionals,the Lok Sabha was informed on Monday.
The move is also aimed at improving the standard of medical care facilities provided to the insured persons under the ESI scheme and their families,Minister of State for Labour Harish Rawat said.
The colleges will be set up in places where the ESI scheme is in implementation,he said in a written reply,adding,the construction period of the projects would normally be 24 months.
To another question,he said the number of units,establishment and employers that defaulted depositing PF fund collected from workers and employees was 75,582 this year till March 31.
Last year,the number of defaulters stood at 80,083 and in 2007 as many as 72,554 defaulted in depositing PF amount collected,he said.
The numbers also include establishments which have defaulted in remittance of employees share of contribution,he said.
