In the Enforcement Wing of the UT Estate Office, only one sub-inspector is left to check violations in the city. Reason: the new Assistant Estate Officer Hargunjit Kaur has got the other four SIs transferred as personal assistants to herself and former AEO Ashwani Kumar, who is the Land Acquisition Officer now.
Instead of checking encroachments and misuse of premises in the city, these four SIs are functioning as PAs to these two officers. These SIs are: Ravinder Sharma, Rakesh Mohan, Mahinderpal and Thakur Das.
Sources said they had been transferred on the orders issued by Kaur.
The field staff of the Estate Office comprises 14 sub-inspectors. With the transfer of four ‘field-duty’ officers, their strength has been reduced to 10 — five for checking encroachments in colonies, four for checking misuse in premises, and only one in the Enforcement Wing.
These sub-inspectors prevent, detect and remove violations and encroachments from the city.
Sources said these four SIs were the ‘blue-eyed boys’ of senior officials, “that’s why they have been posted as their personal staff”.
Kaur said she did not know the present strength of the Enforcement Wing. “I don’t know the strength of the Enforcement staff. For that, you need to call me up in my office tomorrow,” she said.
She confirmed that the SIs have been deputed on her office work: “It’s a fact that the field staff is deputed as our personal assistants.”
