Eunuch murder: Day after,police grope for clues

A day after eunuch leader Sonia De was shot dead near Rupali Cinema in the city,the police were still struggling to make a headway in the probe.

Though the police said it could be a contract killing,they were not sure about the conspirator. It is a case of contract killing. The accused had hired assailants to kill. However,it is not clear who is behind the conspiracy, DCP HG Patel said.

On Friday,a police team visited eunuch Sanju De,a rival of Sonia,in Amraiwadi area but were told she had been bedridden with 80% burns for a month. She was found with 80% burns. She claimed this happened a month ago. Her family and group members did not confirm how this happened, Patel said.

Police said Sonias group members are tightlipped about the incident,though some of them confirmed that Sanjus aides had been after Sonias life.

According to Kokila,an aide of Sonia,she had had a running enmity with Sanju from the last five years and both competed for popularity among the eunuch groups. The bad blood only worsened after Sonia was elected the president of the All India Eunuchs Association. Sanju had plans of getting into politics but Sonias popularity came in the way, Kokila said.

Sonias last big event in Gujarat was during Sadbhavna Mission programme when she tied a rakhi on Chief Minister Narendra Modis hands.
