Dispelling the misconception that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) can be tampered with, former adviser of Election Commission of India K J Rao advocated the use of EVMs saying it is foolproof. “The EVMs cannot be tampered with...It is impossible (to tamper with EVM). EVMs cannot be tampered with unless it is opened,” Rao said during a meeting of the observers, district magistrates and other officials convened by Bihar State Election Authority (BSEA) for PACS election.
EVMs, after the polling are over, are kept in a strong room manned by security personnel under the supervision of able officers, Rao said. Media should also forward and inform the people about the EVM, he added.
