A medical student allegedly committed suicide at her college hostel here after being suspended for six months for "academic misconduct",police said today.

A medical student allegedly committed suicide at her college hostel here after being suspended for six months for “academic misconduct”,police said today.

The deceased identified as Durgesh Kanwar Shekhawat (20),a native of Madhya Pradesh,was in her first year of MBBS in M S Ramaiah Medical college,they said.

She committed suicide last night by hanging herself in her room when her room mate was not there.

The college said the student was suspended for having indulged in “academic misconduct and malpractice” during the internal examination of the college.

In its statement,the college said the incident reported by the concerned Head of the Department was referred to the college disciplinary committee which found the student guilty of the charges.

The student also had confessed in writing that she had indulged in malpractice,it said.

As per the recommendation of the disciplinary committee,the candidate was suspended from the academic activities for one term of six months yesterday.

“A similar policy is adopted by the institution in all other cases of academic misconduct and dishonesty. It is unfortunate that this student took the extreme step,” the college said.
