Examination reforms to get a push

The education sector, from university to pre-primary level, is set for a major overhaul in 2013. While University of Pune (UoP) is aiming for digitisation of examination process on a pilot basis, the implementation of new elementary education syllabus will begin for class 1 and 2 in June, 2013.

"We are in the process of implementing end-to-end automation in examination process. The digitisation of evaluation will be implemented in at least one faculty on a pilot basis in the next academic year," said Sampada Joshi, controller of examination, UoP.

Joshi said several other changes in evaluation and revaluation processes are also under way as the exam reforms cell has been set up to push reforms.

"Adsul committee and other fact finding committees will submit their recommendations on how to optimise the evaluation timeline so that students have faith in the process," said Joshi.

"Centralised Assessment Process (CAP) is another area which we will work on. It is not possible to have a CAP Bhavan in one go but we will set it up faculty by faculty," added Joshi.

The state education board has also put all doubts about availability of new books for class 1 and 2 to rest by declaring that the text books will be available much before the new academic year starts.

"The changes were announced in June and everything is going as per schedule. By March-end, we will have the text books in the market," said Sarjerav Jadhav, president, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.

There were rumors that owing to tiff between Balbharati and MSBSHSE over who should initiate the changes in syllabus, the printing of books will be delayed. But Jadhav denied allegations and assured that books as per the revised syllabus will be available on time.

Officials said RTE implementation procedures will also be carried out smoothly in the upcoming academic year. Deputy director of education Suman Shinde said monitoring authorities will ensure the EWS reservations under RTE are implemented during nursery admissions scheduled to begin on January 11. "To ensure the admission process is transparent, the number of EWS seats in each school and the progress in the admissions will be displayed on our website daily," said Shinde.
