Orissa Governor M C Bhandare presented the ‘Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award 2008’ to Shiv Bhatia, Media Advisor to Haryana Chief Minister, for his outstanding contribution and services. The award was given at a conference on national integration organised by All India National Unity Conference at India International Centre. The function was held to mark the 91st birth anniversary of late prime minister Indira Gandhi.

Akanksha Chaudhry of Panchkula was honoured with the ‘Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award’ for outstanding achievement in the field of English literature. Chaudhry’s collection of poems had recently been released. Former Election Commissioner Dr GVG Krishnamurty, former Governor Dr Bhishma Narain Singh and Nasif Ali were also present on the occasion.
