Ex-cop joins Cong, says Modi a traitor

The retired IPS officer Rajan Priyadarshi joined the Congress to contest for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. While Congress announced his arrival at the party's Jan Vijay Nirdhar Maha Sammelan held in Gandhinagar on Sunday, Priyadarshi announced his arrival in the party stating that Chief Minister Narendra Modi is a "traitor".

A 1980 batch IPS officer, Priyadarshi retired from the Gujarat Police as Additional Director General of Police shared the podium with Cabinet Minister of Commerce and Textiles Anand Sharma, New Delhi MP Sandip Dixit and Congress leaders like Bhratsinh Solanki, Jagdish Thakor among others were present at the function.

Talking about entering politics, he said, "It was a risky decision but I took as I am a fearless man. Now, I am the opposition party to a man (referring to CM) who brought dictatorship in the state. The BJP and Modi in particular, has always been a communal party that brought violence in name of religion."

Known for his upright and no nonsense attitude, Rajan took on the state government several times during his career, specially after the post Godhra riots.

"The government could have controlled the riots easily but the riots were flared up intentionally with a motive to kill Muslims. What purpose was achieved when hundreds of Hindus also died both in Sabarmati Express and clashes after the train incident. We have encountered worse clashes before in late 1990s but they were controlled because no political motives were attached to it," he said.
