Ludhiana MP and national spokesperson of the Congress,Manish Tewari, urged the union environment ministry to appoint Central Pollution Control Board as the executing agency for implementing the bio-remediation project for cleaning the Buddha Nullah as the state government has proved to be quite non-cooperative. Tewari raised the issue during a meeting with the Union Minister for Environment and Forests Jayanthi Natarajan in New Delhi recently. He told her that the bio-remediation project which had been launched on April 23 has to be fully funded by the Centre, was not allowed to be executed by the state government. The Ludhiana MP said, the state government had systematically tried to subvert the project from day one by not only being non-cooperative,but raising deliberate objections to delay the project. The project which should have been at its peak right now is yet to take off thanks to the deliberately non-cooperative attitude of the state government. he said. Tewari regretted that despite clear assurances from the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister about full cooperation for the execution and completion of the project the state government had not only proved to be non-cooperative but has raised so many hurdles that the project could not take off till now.
