Ex-minister not invited to CM’s meet at Singur

Former Agriculture Minister and Trinamool Congress MLA from Singur, Rabindranath Bhattacharya, has not been invited to the "administrative meeting" called by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Singur on Friday.

"There is no question of attending the meeting as I have not been invited to the meeting," said Bhattacharya.

Upset with Chief Minister's decision to remove him from agriculture department, the two-time MLA today said: "I am not leaving the party now. But if my health does not permit, I will quit politics."

He was shifted to less significant department of Statistics and Programme Implementation in the recent cabinet reshuffle.

Bhattacharya , meanwhile, admitted that he had submitted the resignation letter to the Chief Minister on November 16, six days before the reshuffle of cabinet took place. "I was unaware of the reshuffle at that time when I submitted the letter to the chief minister. I intended to resign as there were some issues regarding my department. I will not reveal what led to my resignation now," added Bhattacharya.

Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee said the administrative meeting will send a message to the people of Singur that "I am with them." She played down Wednesday's incident when another MLA of the party, Becharam Manna, had to face the ire of Singur farmers who complained that the government had failed to give them the promised compensation and subsidised rice.
