Monsoon has finally arrived in the city, though delayed by a few days.

Director of the Met Department Surinder Paul said the southwest monsoon has touched the region including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.

The city received 121.8 mm rain in the last two days bringing down the day temperature to 29.4 degrees Celsius. The temperature was around six degrees below normal on Monday. The night temperature also saw a dip as it came down to 22.6 degrees, one degree below normal.

Pre-monsoon showers lashed the city on Sunday with 70 mm rainfall recorded till 5.30 pm on Sunday. The Met department has predicted more rainfall on Tuesday, bringing down the temperature further.

The rainfall caused water logging in many parts of the city. Even though it had stopped raining by afternoon, water could be seen accumulated on roads in some sectors. Residents of Sector 56 complained about water accumulating in the green belt as well as on the roads.

Electricity supply remained suspended in many parts of the city. There were reports of unscheduled power cuts in Sectors 40, 19, 46, 38, 48, 49, 22, 35, 42, Khuda Alisher, Dhanas, parts of Manimajra, Mauli Complex, and Mauli Village and Burail. In several parts of the city, electricity supply could be restored only by late night.

Mohali
Heavy rain, which resumed last night and continued for the second day on Monday morning, poured miseries in Mohali, Kharar, Zirakpur, Dera Bassi, Nayagaon, Balongi and other parts of the district. The low-lying areas, which were already flooded after Sunday afternoon's heavy downpour, further submerged into troubled waters with the showers continuing till this afternoon.

The flood like situation, which was created on Sunday, further aggravated on Monday with most inner and outer roads and parking lots remaining under knee deep water. In the absence of adequate drainage system, the rainwater entered several houses and shops, causing damage to the articles lying inside, in different parts of the district.
