With pre-monsoon showers nowhere in sight,Delhi has been suffering from heat wave conditions for over a week, triggering power outages and water scarcity. But things are likely to take a pleasant turn from Thursday with the India Meteorological Department predicting showers from June 24 to 27,all thanks to a Western Disturbance.
The wait for the monsoon too will be over soon, says the IMD. The monsoon activity that had subdued five days ago is going to get an upsurge in the next 24 hours due to a low-pressure developing over the Bay of Bengal. This will lead to an active monsoon that will reach up to Uttar Pradesh on June 28 and Delhi soon after. The normal date of monsoon in Delhi is June 29,add or deduct seven days. There is a very good chance that the monsoon will be here by July 7, says B P Yadav, the Director of IMD (Forecast). Last year, monsoon had hit Delhi on June 30.
Whether the predictions come true is yet to be seen, but there is no doubt that Delhi is now suffering from extreme heat, unrelenting even during the night. On Wednesday, the minimum temperature rose to 33.7 degrees Celsius, the highest this season and the maximum temperature during the day was recorded at 43.6 degrees; both five degrees above normal.
There will be a decrease in temperature following the rains. It will go below 40 degrees Celsius, added Yadav. Before reaching Delhi, the South West Monsoon will advance over the remaining parts of Eastern and central India over the next five days. So far the monsoon rainfall has been normal across the country.
