Kolkata, September 16: Even as five farmers, who had earlier declined to accept compensation against land acquired by the state Government, on Tuesday appeared before the district magistrate of Hooghly and submitted applications stating their willingness to take compensation, the state Government made it clear that the additional 50 per cent of the award amount will be given only when all the farmers, who did not receive the price for their land, accepted that money.

The WBIDC has paid Rs 120 crore for 997 acres of land at Singur and out of that Rs 91 crore has been already disbursed. Out of the remaining Rs 29 crore, about Rs 22 crore is lying with the district magistrate of Hooghly.

“Unless that money is exhausted, the Government cannot release fresh funds,” Sabyasachi Sen, Principal Secretary, Department of Commerce and Industries, said.

This means that farmers who have already received price for their land cannot get the additional 50 per cent until all the farmers, who did not receive their cheques, accepted money for their land. However, farmers who did not receive their compensation earlier will get 10 per cent of the award amount if they collect it before September 22.
